I’m concerned about my GS puppy’s development and the best time to neuter. I do not want to neuter him prematurely.

When we adopted our Lab pup via rescue, he was neutered at 8 weeks old! It adversely affected his growth. His chest never developed fully, and he never learned to cock his leg although we do have an older Lab who set the example.

Hello Eugene, It sounds like your boy has not had much socialization with other dogs as he was a pup? You can train this behavior out of him, but it'll take persistence and PROPER corrections. I would suggest purchasing a prong collar (follow that link) and begin to socialize him. I'll detail the steps in an article, and will link to it once I create it. Stay tuned!

Brooke, you simply can buy an over the counter de-wormer, or take your dog to the vet. There is no real alarm. Worms are actually “typical” for canines – thought to kill them with meds is the best thing for our dogs

hello martin
I keep my german shepherd in the house he is house trained
obediences: good sit he sit down he laydown
come he come back to me.

ok the problem is fighting with dogs (male and female)
can you help?? give him to a dog trainer and had no
luck still the same if he a dog all hell beak out
it has become a big problem do you know
anyway of fixing it??

This was a good page, but I need to know what happens to GSD when they have worms. My dog has worms, we just found out yesterday. She’s about 9 and a half. Will she die? Or is the treatment simple and fast?

One of the best methods to “bond” a new puppy to his owner is called “tethering”. You basically tether his leash around your waist. Where ever you are, he goes.

Remember that he’s still a baby, curious about his new world at your place. So take about 2 weeks of NO TRAINING – simply spending ALL of his available time with you. Cuddle, pet – bond. Then you’ll see a dramatic change in his desire to please you when you start training.

AND PLEASE DON’T WHIP HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That’d be like spanking a toddler just because…

hey martin…i get what your saying but how am i supposed to train him when he wont pay attention to me when i give him commands. I am makin sure that im the center of his world..i love all the energy he has..my father says that if i whip he when im tryin to train him that he would respond to the commands better..but i dont agree with that because if i whip him then he will be fearful of me and only do the commands out of fear and i dont want that so if you could help me i would greatly appreciate it..thanks

hey i just got a 6 week old male gsd…he is the first one i have ever owned and i want to start teaching him basic commands like sit stay and stuff like that..but his energy levels are out the roof and he wont pay attention to me…what should i do?
